General purpose of the job
The Human Resource Generalist will be responsible for leading the day-to-day HR support to internal customers within the organization focusing on employee relations, investigations, training, and coaching/counseling. In addition, you will build strong relationships with our company’s managers in order to help them with their human resources needs. This position offers a unique blend of operational and strategic responsibilities, allowing you to demonstrate your analytical skills, business acumen, and organizational savvy. You will be empowered to drive initiatives that optimize our workforce, enhance employee experiences, and contribute to the overall success of our organization while adhering to and upholding all company policies, safety standards and federal / state / locality regulations.
Individual accountabilities
Be visible to employees and serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations issues. Address and resolve requests, concerns, and inquiries through planned and intentional interactions.
Maintains confidentiality of financial information, insurance and litigation documents, employee information (e.g. wage information, discipline, health information) and other sensitive and confidential information.
Oversee location recruitment efforts focusing on collaboration with hiring managers and TA partnerships to support business needs.
Oversee new hire orientation, onboarding efforts and employee termination processes.
Contribute to the development of a culture of equity, diversity & inclusion and overall employee experience
Support and proactively move our internal talent management processes forward by working with employees to identify development needs and provide advice to managers and employees to improve employee skills and knowledge.
Manage the location’s salary planning process while also coaching department leaders and communicating with employees throughout the planning cycle.
Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and legal responsibilities.
Assist in building and maintaining collaborative Union / Management relationships to ensure local and broader business goals are achieved.
Responsible for the administration and interpretation of the collective bargaining agreement(s) at unionized locations including assurance of timely grievance handling, and escalation of matters to HR leadership.
Participate in internal investigations when complaints or concerns are brought forth. Escalate complex issues to HR leadership as appropriate.
Assist in audits and document preparation as required to support compliance with internal / external agencies.
Support the continuing transformation of HR via HR process development & implementation, continuous best practice & automation improvements and assist in any additional duties / projects that may be assigned.
Education
- Degree or equivalent experience in Business, Human Resources, or related area.
- Area of experience
- 3-5 years of HR generalist experience; preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Experience with leveraging shared services and x-matrix environment preferred.
- HR Related Certification Preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, etc.)
- Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Must possess the ability to think independently, challenge situations in a constructive manner and present alternatives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous experience with HRIS.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with the ability to comply with the safe driving and operation of company / business use personal vehicle.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.

2. Human Resources Generalist (Factory)
Under the direction of the HR Manager, the HR Generalist provides a broad range of expert services: recruitment and succession planning; employee development and training; labor-management relations; employment law and policy interpretation, compensation, and classification management; benefits administration and employee rewards/recognition; and regulatory compliance guidance and HR reporting. This is a factory HR role working on site 5 days per week. The schedule is predominantly first shift, but there is a need for flexibility to support second and third shifts.
Key Outputs / Deliverables:
- Execute HR Strategy (30%):
- Aid in execution of the Nestlé People Strategy processes that attract, develop, recognize, and retain employees to support the organization’s short- and long-term strategic business needs.
- Support Nestlé initiatives such as the Nestlé Management and Leadership Principles while executing workforce planning processes for the organization such as talent development, organizational planning, and organizational change management.
- Ensure the culture & working environment is open, empowering, fair, and equitable.
- Manage special projects in workforce management, strategic planning, quarterly/monthly people data reports and other ad-hoc works in progress.
Recruitment (25%)
Responsible for salaried and hourly staffing through onboarding and retention of the right talent with alignment to the sites’ staffing strategy
Collaborate with talent management teams in recruitment, new hire processing, posts announcements, job descriptions, diversity recruitment strategies, interviewing candidates and other related tasks.
Performance & Talent Management (10%)
Utilize the performance, talent, and organizational planning management systems to help drive the achievement of company goals through objective and development plan setting, performance calibration, and talent development
Provide support to People Managers through the tools available in assisting individual and team performance improvement
Mentor site Leadership on all people management and development issues
Employee / Labor Relations (25%)
Serve as liaison between employees and site leadership, as needed
Build and maintain relations with employees at the manufacturing site, to promote and foster an environment of open communication and transparent, candid feedback.
Conduct investigations, provide coaching, and document findings, when required
Compliance (10%)
Supporting a holistic safety focus by driving people related safety goals and business initiatives
Perform planned/impromptu investigations and audits to ensure and/or maintain EEO/AA/OFCC or Federal/State employment law compliance in practice as it related to hiring, training, transfers, or promotions of people assets.
Qualifications / Certifications
- A Bachelor’s (BA or BS) in Human Resource Management or related field (e.g., Business, Organizational Communication, Industrial Psychology
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional level Human Resources role
- Human Resources experience in a Manufacturing Plant, Distribution Center, Sales, or Direct Sales Distribution (DSD) environment is preferred
- Thorough understanding of Federal/State employment laws (e.g., EEO, AA, FMLA, ADA, Unemployment Insurance Administration, and Worker’s Compensation).
- Travel (10% or more).
Critical Experiences
- Experience in Classification & Compensation, Benefits Administration, and Recruitment.
- Project Management experience (I.e., such as conducting a wage survey or helping revising handbook policies)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite as well as HRIS systems. PeopleSoft or System Applications and Products (SAP) preferred.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and allocate time efficiently
